Your top 5 values and share an example regarding how each of those values can influence someone’s perceptions or decisions. Also provide a response to the two posts below.
Top 5 values: 1. AUTONOMY (Ability to be a self-determining individual; personal freedom; making own choice). 2. CREATIVITY (Developing new ideas and designs; being innovative). 3. HONESTY (Being frank and genuinely yourself with everyone). 4. JUSTICE (Treating others fairly or impartially; conforming to fact, truth or reason). 5. MORALITY (Relieving and keeping ethical standards; personal honor; integrity).

Part 2: Discussion response
Post 1:
My top five values come as no surprise to me. I have always valued honesty, justice, and morality. As I have progressed in my career, autonomy and emotional wellbeing have become more important to me as well. I feel as though honesty, justice, and morality go somewhat together. I value honesty in myself and from others. Sometimes this can come across as harsh because I prefer to always be frank and genuine, even though sometimes people do not always desire a frank and genuine response. However, I believe that honesty is a part of morality for me, and I hold myself to this ethical standard I have created for myself. I value justice and look to the facts and try to be impartial with my team when dealing with making decisions or resolving conflict. Because I value autonomy, I want to extend autonomy to my team as well. There are some cases where individuals prefer to be given more direction and I will oblige, but it does not come as naturally to me. I feel as though emotional wellbeing is important on so many levels. It can contribute to overall health and happiness. Having peace of mind and inner security, especially in a work environment, is important and I do check in with my team at our scheduled one-on-one meetings about this as well as the progress of their assigned job duties.

Recently, I noticed that a leader in our organization that I often work closely with was telling many “white lies” over the past week or so for, what I would consider, negligible reasons. For example, he wanted to leave a meeting, so he lied and made up an excuse and later told someone a lie about some minor incident. While there may be no immediate harm in these actions, I felt myself losing trust in him. If he lied so frequently and easily about minor issues, something that really did not require a lie or dishonesty, how could I trust anything he said to me or my team? This reinvigorated the value of honesty within me. I do not want others to not trust me because small bouts of dishonesty for convenience’s sake is sometimes easier that being frank and straight forward. I also realize that I desire honesty from others as well and I see honesty as a moral standard.

Post 2: As I get older my values are not the same as they were when I was younger and at this time in my life I value less materialistic values and more well-being values. In the past week, my values of health, love, pleasure, wisdom, and emotional wellbeing significantly influenced my perceptions and decisions. For instance, I prioritized my health by going to the gym, which not only kept me physically fit but also helped me stay energized and focused throughout the day. This commitment to health occasionally clashed with others’ choices, such as when a friend suggested ordering fast food for dinner. I opted for a healthier home-cooked meal instead, which led to a discussion about the importance of healthy eating habits.

My value of love manifested in my efforts to stay connected with my family. Despite a busy schedule, I made it a point to have a video call with my mom and sent groceries, reinforcing the importance of maintaining close relationships. This emphasis on family sometimes conflicted with other priorities. For example, I had a disagreement with a colleague who prioritized work over spending time with loved ones, highlighting our differing values regarding work-life balance.

Pleasure is another key value for me, and I indulged in reading, a hobby that brings me immense joy and relaxation. However, this approach to balancing work and pleasure wasn’t always shared by those around me. A friend wanted to spend the weekend working on a project, while I preferred to take a break and enjoy some leisure time, leading to a conflict between our approaches.

Wisdom is crucial to me, and I dedicated time to reading and learning about new topics. This continuous pursuit of knowledge fosters my intellectual growth. However, my commitment to staying informed led to a debate with someone who relied on information for a decision from a fake online source, underscoring the importance I place on learning and doing research.

Finally, my value of emotional wellbeing was evident in my daily practices of mindfulness and meditation. These activities helped me stay emotionally balanced and resilient. However, not everyone shares this emphasis on mental health. A friend dismissed the importance of mental health practices, which led to a conversation about the significance of emotional wellbeing and self-care.

Overall, while my values guide my actions and decisions, they also sometimes lead to clashes with others whose values differ. These interactions offer opportunities for discussions that help me understand different perspectives and reinforce the importance of my own values.
