Instructions: Conduct a “Force Field Analysis” (7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Habit 6) on yourself. Then complete the following: 1. Describe the driving forces in your life that are moving you toward growth and change (think positive, reasonable, logical, conscious, and economic). 2. Describe the restraining forces that inhibit growth and change (think negative, emotional, illogical, unconscious, social/psychological). 3. Are the sources of some or all the restraining forces from other people? If so, what are some ways of understanding the perspectives of those individuals (you don’t necessarily have to agree with them)? 4. Using habits 4, 5, and 6 as a backdrop, what are some tangible steps you can take to increase driving forces? Reduce restraining forces? 5. Briefly indicate the importance of understanding driving and restraining forces in leadership.
