Write a research report on the risks and opportunities associated with future change including climate change & sustainability issues. This assignment should be viewed as two parts to one whole. The first part deals with the questions of expected future changes, as discussed in this course, in general and the second considers your research on a chosen case company from a vulnerable industry sector (i.e, transportation, reinsurance, energy, tourism, agriculture). Overseas case company examples are fine to use, however, you need to make sure that you have sufficient access to materials (in English). It is a good idea to steer away from multi-national companies as they situated in multiple locations and their reports often very extensive making them difficult to analyse. There is no need to conduct interviews with the company. Time will be made during lectures to check the case study company you have chosen. Note – your analysis and discussion should include and be supported by academic references (journal articles and reputable reports please do not include lecture slides). Your assessment should answer the following questions: Part One (~1000 words): (General) What type(s) of change and impacts should companies prepare for in a changing future? Discuss the concepts of mitigation, adaptation and resilience and the varying roles they play. Part Two (~1500 words): (Specific for your company) Introduce your company and provide an overview of the vulnerable sector you have chosen including why it is vulnerable (evaluate in terms of your discussion in part one). Drawing on your case study, what actions has the company undertaken to mitigate sector specific risks and develop opportunities? Discuss the areas where the company remains vulnerable. Discuss the implications for competitive advantage. These should be critically discussed.
