Assignment Content The major assignment for this course is the completion of a research paper for Unit VII in which you will discuss a correctional issue and provide research to support recommended. For this assignment, you will begin to build the assignment in four parts. Each part is discussed below. Part I, Topic: First, select the topic. The topic should focus on adult and juvenile populations. A list of topics from which you may choose are below. Other topics will be considered but must be approved by your faculty. Underfunding Prison conditions Classification/risk assessment Special populations Crowding Overcrowding Staff hiring Staff working conditions Correction officer deviance Officer pay/workload Management/administration Privatization of corrections (prisons and community corrections) Part II, Summary: Draft a brief summary (200 words) of the issue related to your topic of choice. For example, if you decide to discuss the hiring of correctional staff, your focus could be recruiting female staff. This brief summary may be used as your introduction statement for the final research paper. Part III, Outline: Create an outline for your paper. The outline should be at least one page and include the following elements: thesis statement, major points that support a thesis, and supporting points for major points. Please review the Outline tutorial for assistance. Part IV, Annotated Bibliography: Write an annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography should relate to your topic, and include at least three references, with at least one source from the CSU Online Library. All articles must have been peer-reviewed and published within the past 5 years. Please review the Annotated Bibliography tutorial for assistance. Please note that you may use more than three references in your paper; however, three are stipulated here to assist you in developing the outline, main points, and supporting points. Additionally, the references presented in the annotated bibliography are not required for your paper, as you may identify other, more appropriate references to complete the paper. Length: Your submission should be at least four pages in length: topic select and brief summary (minimum 200 words) Outline (minimum one page) Annotated bibliography (minimum one page) References: The annotated bibliography should include at least three references, with at least one source from the CSU Online Library.
