In the Module 1 assignment, you selected a problem. You also developed three research questions to guide the literature review for your action research proposal. This is the Holycross_S_RES5153_Module 1 Analysis document that you had written for me previously.
The purpose of the literature review is for you to synthesize relevant, current peer-reviewed articles so you may better understand the identified problem before conducting a data-driven investigation.
In this assignment, you will synthesize literature to reveal three themes related to addressing your chosen problem. You will compose the Module 2 sections from the Action Research Proposal Paper Template.
Step 1
Review your instructor’s feedback on the problem, purpose, and research questions in your Module 1 assignment (you did). If needed, adjust your work before moving forward.
Step 2
Review the required readings and the following resources on writing effective literature reviews:
What Is a Literature Review?
Synthesizing the Literature
Step 3
Use your research questions to select six peer-reviewed articles published within 5 years. Add these articles to the APA-formatted reference page at the end of your paper.
Analyze each article carefully. Analyzing means you are disassembling complex information into main ideas and key takeaways.
Synthesize the information from the articles. Synthesizing means you are combining the main ideas and key points from multiple sources into common threads.
Determine the three most prevalent themes or patterns across the literature. Potential themes might be the extent or prevalence of the problem, causes of the problem, methodologies, best-practice solutions and/or interventions, and strategies for action planning.
As you analyze each article, write down a list of the main ideas you see. Compare your lists for each article to piece together repeated items and identify the three themes that will inform your action research the most. These three themes will become the body paragraphs of your literature review.
Step 4
Compose the new sections of your APA-formatted paper. Every paragraph in the literature review should have several articles cited to support your synthesis.
First, write an introductory paragraph for the Literature Review. The introduction should hook the readers, restate the purpose of the study, and communicate the alignment of the literature with the research questions.
Next, under the Review of Current Literature Level 1 heading, introduce the common main ideas and themes threaded through the literature in a detailed paragraph.
Then, compose three sections for the themes you identified while analyzing and synthesizing the literature. Each theme should be listed with a unique title as an APA-formatted Level 2 heading.
Finally, write your Summary and Conclusions section as a Level 2 heading. First, write about any gaps in the literature review. Then, detail how the literature review informs your action research proposal. Explain what the literature says about best practices for addressing your problem. Conclude with what is known so far and what you must discover later in your data collection plan.
At this point, your paper will be 8-9 pages with what was written in module 1, not including the title page and reference page.
Step 5
Revise your paper’s introduction in light of what you have learned from your literature review. Use the assignment rubric to ensure you have met all requirements.
Notes from the professor in Module 1 :
Hi Stephanie, Thanks for your submission and for providing the information on your action research. You did a great job providing literature to support your work and statements. Great on the problem statement as you provided detailed information on why this is a problem. For the assignment, provide a summary and conclusion for your assignment. Overall, great job on this assignment as the research questions were aligned with the purpose and the problem statement. Please see the comments embedded in the document and let me know if you have any questions. Dr. Deroche
