Introduction
Provide an overview of the article. Discuss whether the hypothesis is clearly stated. Is necessary
background info and previous research described in the introduction? Is the purpose made clear in the
introduction?
Problem or Purpose
A research problem is a statement about an area of concern, a condition to be improved, a
difficulty to be eliminated, or a troubling question that exists in scholarly literature, in theory, or
in practice that points to the need for meaningful understanding and deliberate investigation. In
some social science disciplines, the research problem is typically posed in the form of a question.
A research problem does not state how to do something, offer a vague or broad proposition, or
present a value question.
Summary of Article
Provide a brief summary of the article, outlining the main points, results and discussion. The section
should highlight the main points of the article you are critiquing. This section should focus on providing
the reader with an overall idea of the content of the article.
Critical Analysis
Provide your critique of the article in this section. Describe any problems you had with the authors
premise, methods or conclusions. Focus on problems with author’s argument, presentation or on
information and alternatives that have been overlooked. Organize your thoughts well. Present one point at
a time.
Method
The methods section should describe what was done to answer the research question, describe
how it was done, justify the experimental design, and explain how the results were analyzed.
Conclusion (Report what the author concluded/your reactions)
Present an overview of the articles argument, as well as your conclusions and reactions.
Recommendation (s)-
Indicate whether you agree/disagree with the author’s conclusion(s). Support your posture and provide
your recommendations.
