What trends are apparent in the course or textbook, and how do these trends either support or negate your inferences and/or predictions?

Reflection is a cognitive process that promotes self-awareness and encourages self-assessment. The cognitive process of reflecting on one’s authentic knowledge, practice, and beliefs/attitudes is essential to developing professionalism. Reflection allows one to think critically about one’s ability to effectively join content knowledge with practice.

You will write a reflection paper that is due at the end of the semester. Your APA style paper should be 3-4 pages in length (not including title or reference page). The paper will focus on significant ideas or topics you learned this semester in Introduction to Sociology. You must identify at least 5 sociological concepts and identify a theoretical perspective in which you view this topic (i.e., functionalist, conflict, or symbolic interactionist).

For example, one of the topics we discussed is the concept of socialization. In your paper, you could discuss your socialization. You would discuss your personal and professional experiences and then reflect on the experiences based on what you’ve learned in this class about socialization.

You will then relate that topic to your education and future career.

For example, how has your educational experience at Blackhawk technical college been an agent in your socialization? What will socialization (onboarding) need to happen in your future workplace so you will be an effective employee?

*Minimum focus of one idea/topic and relation but feel free to do more*

Conclude by explaining how what you learned in this course will help you be successful in your career; this can be generalized to the class or specific to the concept you wrote about.

A strong reflection will show your knowledge of the sociological topic you choose and show your connections, personal and professional, to the content.

Sources used should be cited in APA format and parenthetical citations are encouraged. All sources should be in alphabetical order on a separate references page at the end of your reflection.

Questions to consider in your reflection:
1) How has the course topic either supported or changed your authentic knowledge, attitudes, and/or beliefs? Give specific examples from the text or supplemental readings.
2) What trends are apparent in the course or textbook, and how do these trends either support or negate your inferences and/or predictions? Give specific examples from the textbook/readings.
3) What new knowledge or new understanding of previous knowledge have you acquired from sociology/the text/the readings you perceive will influence your life? Give specific examples from the textbook/readings.
4) Where did you disagree with what you learned from the course/textbook/supplemental reading? What is your counter-argument? Give specific examples from the textbook/readings/sociology.
